ZoneDirector automatically monitors and controls ZoneFlex access points, including their configuration, channel allocation, power levels and system status. It offers breakthrough WLAN features such as adaptive wireless meshing (Smart Mesh Networking), advanced RF management, next-generation quality of service including airtime fairness and band steering (SmartCast), robust security (SmartSec), and secure tunnelling and traffic redirection. It also offers all the traditional WLAN management features – advanced authentication, modern encryption, fast roaming, secure guest access and intrusion detection – that are standard in centrally managed WLAN systems.
ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi access points are the first centrally managed multimedia Wi-Fi access points able to extend wireless coverage two to four times more efficiently than conventional devices.

ZoneFlex access points use integrated, miniaturised smart antenna arrays that automatically steer the Wi-Fi signal over the best paths, avoiding interference and obstacles that affect connection quality.
Ruckus dual-band access points support band steering, moving some clients to the less used 5 GHz band whenever possible. This balances the load across the available radios, which in turn keeps the Wi-Fi network stable. Like ZoneDirector Smart WLAN controllers, ZoneFlex access points are based on a plug-and-play architecture that minimises the operational burden on the business. All ZoneFlex access points include Ruckus BeamFlex technology with smart antenna arrays and support the advanced Smart Mesh Networking system. Ruckus BeamFlex, a patented smart Wi-Fi antenna technology, provides consistently high support for multimedia services. It continuously adapts the antenna configuration to each receiver and reconfigures in real time to avoid interference and physical barriers. Highly sensitive elements provide 9 dBi of antenna gain, 17 dB of interference rejection and the best possible receive sensitivity (down to -98 dBm). The direct result is fewer access points, happier end users and lower maintenance costs, thanks to the elimination of dead spots and much greater Wi-Fi coverage and performance.
Smart Mesh Networking uses patented Ruckus BeamFlex technology and advanced RF routing to create adaptive long-range wireless links between Smart Wi-Fi access points. This reduces the operating cost of deploying a WLAN by eliminating the need to run Ethernet cables to every access point, and halves the time needed to install and deploy the network.
The IEEE 802.11n standard brings faster data transmission and higher throughput. Ruckus ZoneFlex access points make this a reality with BeamFlex technology and Automatic Interference Mitigation (AIM). This combination hides the complexity of 802.11n and simplifies deployment while increasing wireless performance and coverage. The advanced antenna gives full control over the paths the Wi-Fi signal takes, so the optimal, “cleanest” path is chosen for every packet in the system. This increases the likelihood of performance gains across the coverage area through 802.11n mechanisms such as spatial multiplexing, channel bonding and frame aggregation.
